The goal for this project was to convey meaning through typography, incorporating principles of design. I wanted to create focus on the word "get away" to emphasize the way these two words could signify a peaceful "getaway" or an ominous, haunting warning.
I used a black to red gradient blend mode to create the sinister feeling. I wanted the house to feel as if it was lurking or hiding in the shadows of the background. I used a grainy texture as an overlay to create a rustic, old-movie look, which can be seen on the top text and the trees in the background. Finally, I chose a handwritten, distressed font for the title, "Get Away," and centered the text and image to emphasize both and emulate the style of other popular movie posters. I also chose to keep the tree branches on the top right in the image, rather than editing them out, because I felt it gave the perspective of someone observing the house from far away, adding to the sinister feeling of the movie advertisement.
